I have a wonderful husband and two wonderful boys, one in high school and the other graduated almost two years ago. My father and one brother, Gary, live in Maine, so we get to spend time together (See family photo below). I also have a twin sister, Pamela, who lives in Kansas with her husband and three children, and a brother, Brian (also a twin) that lives in West Virginia with his two daughters. Brian's twin, Jason, my oldest sister Dolores, and my mother, Margareta, have all passed on to a better place.
My first career was in business, mainly payroll and human resources. I did this from 1985 (Germany) until 2004 when I decided that this was not what made me happy. I went back to school to become a teacher because I love working with children.
Teaching and continued learning are my favorite things to do. Science is my subject choice because I find it fascinating, it contains many elements to include history, language arts, math and it so much FUN! So, what better career than to teach science?
I started teaching in 2006, first as a student-teacher and long-term substitute. I was fortunate enough to have Mr. Gene Roy as my mentor. I then worked in the Day Treatment program with some of the more challenging, yet wonderful students. I became a full-time science teacher for the 2007-2008 school year. Although it is a lot more than the 7:30 to 2:10 job that many believe (mine is more like 4:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m - just ask my family), I truly do love it!
I also coach (more like manage) the high school bowling team and in the 2009-2010 school year started a junior high bowling club as well.
I have an after-school science club that includes Forensics (Oct. - Jan.) and Rocketry (Feb. - Mar.). Hopefully vernal pools/invasive species, electricity and magnetism, and horticulture can be added in future years. Below are a few pictures of the forensic activities...
